The Hans Shwitters story I was dealt was King Without People. So to simplify the story for visual purposes I began to research the status of kings but those without wealth and power. A lion is typically known as the king of the jungle. A party hat, crown in a Christmas cracker is a crown but means nothing but to decorate. A Shoe or boot polishing chair that was very common in the beginning of the 20th century was also known as the 'throne'. As the paying customer had a servant to clean mud from their feet. The mattress is also placed on the chair as in the story it tells of how the 'king' went searching for his throne but only found a pile of mattresses!
I chose an older looking lion for the image as the his youth is going and so resembles his pride. The positioning of the kings body is to resemble a fear of being forgotten and lacks confidence and pride, all of which a true king would possess.
